Kansas and I trip to Missouri and Arkansas
Well my last post was how excited we was to take our trip together to Missouri to finalize dads stuff and arrange dad's memorial. Kansas, Deasyl (our great grandson) and I headed out for Missouri on April 30th. Our first day we drove to Sidney, Nebraska and stopped at Cabela's to camp that night because they have pens for horses there and Its a really nice little place to lay over with your horses. The next day Deasyl and I got up, fed and hayed Kansas and decided to go shopping for a bit to kind of give Kansas a little more of a break before we hit the road again. We went to walmart and done some shopping then we out to eat. We headed back to load Kansas and head out to Missouri. We got into Indian State Park in Nemaha, Nebraska that night about midnight Deasyl and I unloaded Kansas and put him in his stall, fed and Hayed him then we hit the hay to get some sleep.
Indian caves state park is a beautiful park to camp and relax, it is a absolutely beautiful park. There is a lot to see at the park.
We didn't have a real good trip from the time we got to Nebraska though. I have always wanted to ride Kansas at indian caves and I didn't ever get the chance to throw a leg over his back the whole time we was there. The wind was horrible the whole time we was there. There was storms one night and we was in tornado warnings told to take shelter. That was scary!!!!!! We was in Nebraska for 14 days and then we headed to Lexington, Mo to spend a couple days with Halee and Sophia. On the way down there I got lost and it took me 5 hours to make a 2 hour drive. Finally got to Jamies where Kansas was being pastured at about 10 pm that night. We unloaded Kansas and headed to Halee's. We planned to go trail riding the next day and we woke up it was freezing cold and wind was blowing horrible. We did get to go to a fun car show while we was there and seen some pretty cool old cars. We was at Halee's for 3 days then headed to Arkansas thats when the real nightmare began. We got to Eben's dads at about 10 pm we unloaded Kansas and decided to tie him to the trailer for the night with hay and water then head to horsehead lake the next day. At about 1 am we heard a knock at the door and I was told Kansas had gotten loose and was about a mile up the highway. So I had to ride up where he was with the guy that found him and walk him back to Michaels, then I put him in the trailer for the rest of the night. We got up the next morning and headed to horsehead lake to set up camp cause Robert was going to be there that night and we wanted to be all set up when he got there. Robert got there that evening and we were settled into camp. Well it stormed really bad that night and flooded the low water crossing that we had to cross to get out of camp. That low water crossing is the only way out of the camp we was in except by horseback. WELL that morning I was letting Kansas graze and one of the dogs spooked him by running up behind him and barking, at that time Kansas took off up the hill. Kansas has rode the trails at horsehead lake thousands of times cause horsehead lake is our old stomping grounds it is right by our old farm. So Kansas took off down the trail and I knew he was headed for our old farm but I could not get out to meet him there. He crossed the water no problem at all and he was gone. I contacted the neighbor at the old farm and she watched for him to show up, in about a hour she text me and told me Kansas was there just grazing. He went home!!! We had to wait until that evening and the water finally went down enough my husband could get us across the low water. so we went to the old farm and got him and took him down to the arena and put him in a stall. We knew there was no way to get our horse trailer out to go get him so we had to leave him in the stall for a day. Then we finally got the horse trailer out and went and got him. We headed up to our daughters in Jasper, Arkansas following the GPS that got me lost in Missouri (she lives in the boondocks) . The GPS told us to turn on a dirt road and like a idiot I done it. WELL that was not a smart thing to do. We was trying to get turned around and I jack knifed the trailer too far and bam the back window shattered. I ended up backing out of that road about 2 miles we got back to town and contacted Sam to get directions to her house from where we was. She came and met us and we followed her into her house (Im not kidding it was in the boondocks) We got to her driveway and that was a nightmare to get into with a 3 horse gooseneck trailer. We finally got into the driveway got the trailer parked and went inside. We had company the following day one of Roberts nieces that I had never met. We had a wonderful visit and really enjoyed the day. Sam and Roger fixed a really good diner for us all and we ate and visited all day. I absolutely love Sam and Rogers farm it is so peaceful and beautiful. After being at Sam's for 2 days We decided to go back to horsehead lake and stay so off we went back down to the river valley. We got to horsehead lake and set up camp for the night this was on a Sunday. On Monday morning I woke up and told the boys pack your stuff we are heading to Idaho today Im done with this trip and Im going home. Our trip home was good and I was sooooooo thankful to get back to Idaho. Needless to say I only got to ride Kansas for about 45 minutes the whole trip but he was a trooper the whole time. Maybe someday I can plan a trip and it will actually be a nice peaceful trip but for awhile Kansas and I will ride the mountains here at home in Idaho and enjoy each other. NO MORE LONG TRIPS FOR AWHILE FOR KANSAS AND I!!! Ill be sharing pic's of our adventures right here at home soon though. For now I am signing off, hope everyone has a awesome day.
